The residence of a world-champion racecar driver in one of America’s most sought-after zip codes, 85253, Paradise Valley, Arizona, is available. The weekend of June 1 and 2, the home, 5636 East Via Buena Vista in Hidden Lane Estates, will be open for Realtors® and serious buyers from 1 to 4 p.m. both days.
On 2.25 acres with mountain views, the Santa Barbara/Tuscan-style custom is just west of 56th Street and Doubletree Road along a private tree-lined lane leading to a dramatic circular drive to the entry.
The five-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bathroom home flexes for everyday living, intimate family retreats and entertaining. Fully landscaped, it has grass front and back with mature trees, including citrus and native varieties, making this a bird-lover’s sanctuary, too.
Convenience is thematic: The 6,780-square foot single-level has no interior steps and includes a stand-alone 662-square-foot casita with a kitchenette, full bath and laundry –– perfect for short or longer stays by family and guests.
For further enjoyment of the Arizona lifestyle, the new owner will enjoy a large 50×20-foot saltwater heated lap pool and a Jacuzzi tub; tranquil fountains; spacious patios and a ramada, with a circular staircase to an observation deck; built-in BBQ; and lighted tennis courts and basketball court.
“This estate home is in a neighborhood of five other multi-million-dollar homes,” says one of the owners. “Privacy is important for all of us. Absolutely no one can look into any of your windows as it sits on a large lot with resort-style landscaping.”
The home is close to the dining, shopping, cultural assets of Scottsdale as well as recreational opportunities including hundreds of miles of hiking and biking at the spectacular McDowell Sonoran Preserve. For personal or business travel, Sky Harbor International Airport is 20 minutes away, and, a few miles east, the Loop 101 connects to other major Valley and state highways.
“An astute buyer will immediately see the value of this property –– for its location, lot size, style, convenience and privacy,” says Frank Aazami, principal of the Private Client Group, Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty, Scottsdale. He is co-listing the property with associate Jan Kabbani.
The elegant interior is by award-winning Phoenix interior designer, Ernesto Garcia, ASID, who incorporated finishes and accessories such as Venetian plaster walls and custom Versace rugs, designed and created in Beverly Hills.
Throughout the home’s public spaces, large architecturally appealing dual-pane windows welcome light across the natural wood and polished-marble floors and high ceilings, enhancing the home’s spaciousness. The focal-point formal living room has double French doors that open to the pool. And, the formal dining room has a gas fireplace, one of four inside and outside.
Excellent for entertaining large groups or small, the gourmet kitchen is centered by a large island and incorporates a gas cooktop, wall oven and other Viking and Sub-Zero appliances. Finished with two-toned cabinetry, the room has a breakfast bar and walk-in pantry and connects to the dining and breakfast rooms, both with beautiful views to the grounds.
All bedrooms are ensuite. The master retreat includes a sitting area and a large walk-in closet.
The bathroom suite has a fireplace, double sinks, separate shower and soaking tub for two adults with jets, a toilet room and bidet. Adjacent is an exercise room with a sauna. A second master also has a sitting room, walk-in closet and a separate entry/exit.
One of the owners’ favorite spaces is the shared library, with built-in bookcases and a library ladder accessing 500-plus books. A 1,000-bottle temperature-controlled wine room will satisfy the spirituous needs of small get-togethers as well as large catered events.
The owners have been frequent entertainers. The home has hosted parties for charity kick-offs, weddings and receptions, and the pool has welcomed large pink flamingos, pink beach balls and color-changing translucent balls for themed parties.
Family friends have requested the owners block out dates for casita stays. “They claim the room possesses the most tranquil sleeping ambiance they have ever experienced, a haven to recharge their mental batteries,” the owner explains.
In the spirit of the owner, car lovers will enjoy the spacious three-car garage and additional motorcourt spaces for 15 vehicles. In addition, the side-entry garage directly accesses the home and includes store space and cabinetry for tools, parts and other items.
“The home has enough land to build garage space for over 30 cars, using hydraulic lifts,” the owner says. “You can build on the west side and east side by the garages. The house is a car lover’s dream.”
Other features are an energy-savings north/south orientation, gas heat, a wet bar, skylights, central vacuum, water softener, security system and multi-zoned HVAC.
Children can attend the “three Cs” of the high-performing Scottsdale Unified District: Cherokee Elementary School, Cocopah Middle School and Chaparral High School or attend one of many fine charter and private schools in the area.
“Buyers will find that all the details of this home combine for a unique opportunity in a great setting,” Kabbani says. “There’s the timeless architecture, for one, the grounds are private but right in the heart of Paradise Valley, and this is home that is both intimate and grand. And, for the future, there’s tons of room to add whatever you wish for.”
She adds that because one of the owners loves jellybeans, whoever guesses closest the number in the bowl wins a $500 gift card during the open house weekend.
