The Legacy Continues, Quickly:

The Cadillac CTS-V Sedan continues its fast-paced ways in 2014. With the fabulous supercharged 6.2L V-8, you can move ahead of just about anyone either with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.

Rated at 556 horsepower and 551 lb.-ft. of torque, the engine is the most powerful in Cadillac’s history, connected to an intercooled Eaton Twin Vortices Series™ (TVS™) supercharger, with twin four-lobe rotors twisted 160 degrees.

“Typical superchargers feature three lobes twisted 60 degrees,” Cadillac explains. “The fourth lobe and greater helix profile, when combined with unique air inlet and outlet ports, create smoother, more efficient airflow into the engine.” This increases efficiency, while reducing noise and vibration compared to more ordinary designs, the company says.

The six-speeds are a Tremec TR6060 manual with a dual-disc clutch and a Hydra-Matic 6L90 automatic with steering wheel-mounted shift controls. These require no shift-lever movement and allow quick tap up/tap down selection. You only need to slide the shifter into the manual “gate” to engage the performance mode.

A high-performance rear axle includes a limited-slip rear differential in a cast iron housing to manage temperature: a 3.73 ratio on manuals, 3.23 on automatics. Asymmetrical half-shafts smoothly balance oscillations side to side, almost eliminating “power hop.”

The performance powertrain includes Magnetic Ride Control, Brembo brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 performance tires, specifically engineered for the CTS-V, on 19-inch forged aluminum wheels as well as a reduced-weight brake system with two-piece front rotors. Satin graphite finish aluminum wheels can be ordered as well as red- or yellow-painted Brembo calipers.

Exterior and Interior: High Performance

Functionality and aesthetics coalesce in the CTS-V. The satin-finished dihedral front grille increases front-end airflow, and a center section of the aluminum hood has been raised to provide clearance for the supercharger.

Specific to the CTS-V are the front and rear fascias as well as a rear spoiler that houses the center high-mounted stop lamp. Also new are four exterior colors: Phantom Gray Metallic and Cadillac Cadillac MochaCadillac

Steel Cadillac Metallic as well as Majestic Plum Metallic and Red Obsession Tintcoat, both extra.

Additional exterior features include high-intensity headlamps with Adaptive Forward Lighting System; fog lamps; heated and power-adjustable outside mirrors; and rainsense automatic windshield wipers.

Inside, the CTS-V Sedan features performance seats with perforated microfiber sueded fabric inserts for comfortably holding everyone in place as the car shows what it can do. Order Recaro performance seats for high-performance driving. They feature 14-way adjustability with pneumatic bolster controls in the seats and backrests.

Standard are a thick steering wheel and a gauge package with large instruments and bold readouts, such as an LED tachometer function that flashes as the engine nears the red line. A boost gauge and lateral acceleration display are included. The steering wheel and shifter are available in microfiber sueded fabric.

Among the many standard features on the CTS-V are an audio system with navigation, MP3 playback, Bose Surround Sound with 10 speakers, 40-gig hard drive and USB and Bluetooth phone connectivity; keyless entry and keyless start and, with the automatic transmission, adaptive remote vehicle start; ultrasonic rear park assist; and a rearview camera system.

Color and trims include Ebony seats with Ebony microfiber sueded fabric inserts and Light Titanium seats with Light Titanium microfiber sueded fabric inserts. One year of OnStar Directions and Connections service is standard.

Legendary Cadillac Ride, 21st-Century Cadillac Performance

The CTS-V magic combines performance and riding ease. The Magnetic Ride Control uses shocks controlled by advanced magneto-rheological technology for better response time and precision. “Electronic sensors at all four wheels literally ‘read the road’ every millisecond, making constant adjustments to damping to create virtually instantaneous and extremely precise control of body motions,” Cadillac says.

Furthering this sense of luxury performance are two selectable modes (Tour and Sport), enabling you to select the suspension for grand touring or all-out performance.

The Brembo brakes are built with six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston calipers in the rear. Up front, the two-piece rotor assembly features a rotor mounted to a “hat” that attaches the brake assembly to the wheel hub. The hat and rotor heat and cool at different rates, increasing heat dissipation and reducing warping.

Other chassis and suspension features include an independent short/long arm (SLA) front suspension system with low-mass aluminum; a multi-link rear suspension incorporating a fully isolated subframe; StabiliTrak electronic chassis control system integrated with the car’s standard four-channel ABS; and power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system.

Cadillac’s concern for your and your riders’ safety is commensurate with its commitment to performance and luxury. These features include a dual-stage driver front air bag; segment-first dual depth front passenger air bag; driver and front passenger side seat-mounted pelvic/thorax side air bags; roof-rail side curtain air bags with rollover-protection technology that cover front and rear seating rows; front safety belt pretensioners; tire-pressure monitoring system; body structure with high-strength steel; active head restraints for front seat occupants; ultrasonic rear parking assist; and a rearview camera system.
