Highline Test Drives
The automotive industry has been served a massive juxtaposition in the past 15 years. Tesla was the first on the scene as a new, EV focused car manufacturer, which paved the way for many like Lucid, Rivian, and a number of others to varied success. While these new manufacturers certainly had a lot to prove, they were also focused on a very niche section of the market at the time: pure EV vehicles. While these new EV manufacturers were busy developing their battery and EV efficiency, legacy automotive brands were slow to adapt and incorporate similar technologies into their product line. Fast forward to 2026, and the Lucid Air Touring has been the most impressive EV/hybrid vehicle we have reviewed.
Our 2026 Lucid Air Touring receives an EPA estimated 396 miles on a full charge, 620 horsepower and 885 lbs-ft of torque in the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration. While the power numbers sound impressive, we also have to remember it comes wrapped in 6,283 lbs., making it about the same weight as a 2026 Cadillac Escalade-V and 400 lbs. heavier than a 2026 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG. Despite the weight, you do still feel the essential high-power EV acceleration, however living with the Lucid Air everyday, the acceleration numbers are more of a party trick than practical daily driving. The Lucid Air’s real performance comes in how the vehicle manages its battery reserves with incredible recharging efficiency.
Why all EV or hybrid vehicles from major legacy automotive manufacturers do not manage their electric power the same way as the Lucid Air is beyond understanding. Most recently, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport PHEV would run its electric power out completely, then you’re left hauling the hybrid drivetrain around with the internal combustion engine between plug-ins. On the other hand, the Lucid Air is all about battery management efficiency with aggressive regeneration, smart onboard systems management, and an incredibly large battery. Most impressive to our team was we were able to run our test vehicle without any issue, approx 400 miles, on just a standard 3 prong outlet with consistent overnight charging.
Pairing the excellent battery efficiency and easy entry level charging capabilities, with the vehicle’s driving experience, it is no wonder Lucid as an auto manufacturer has made such an impression in the industry for such a young company. Standard luxury EV driving experiences can be found inside the Lucid Air Touring as well; a quiet cabin, comfortable ride, and our model came with the optional Surreal SoundTM Pro with 21 speakers and 20-Way power front seats with massage & ventilation, made for a truly relaxing experience behind the wheel. It is important to remember with vehicles such as the Lucid Air Touring that you do not need fast 0-60 times, aggressive styling, and some flashy tricks to be a great vehicle. The Lucid Air Touring is just as impressive, being an effortless vehicle to run while being in your own little world inside the cabin.
The Lucid Air’s styling and build quality feels a step up compared to similarly priced EV vehicles, while the overall shape and style are consistent with other luxury EVs. Our Lucid Air Touring’s $102,100 price tag and driving experience delivered feels appropriately placed on the current automotive market.
The 2026 Lucid Air Touring stands out as a refined and thoughtfully engineered luxury EV, blending impressive performance with exceptional real world efficiency, prioritizing intelligent battery management and everyday usability. Unlike many competitors, its energy systems make ownership remarkably easy, even allowing for consistent charging on a standard household outlet. Inside, the Lucid Air Touring offers a quiet, comfortable cabin that emphasizes relaxation over flash. At just over $100,000, it feels confidently positioned in the premium EV market, proving that Lucid’s strength lies not in gimmicks, but in balance, refinement, and forward-thinking engineering.
