Saab 9-5

Inspired by the Saab Aero-X concept car, the new Saab 9–5 may change your concept of premium sedans.

The totally restyled car from the Swedish manufacturer is now inventoried and for order at Legends Cadillac Hummer Saab, 7901 E. Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. in Scottsdale.

Combining crisp practical Scandinavian design and the carmaker’s heritage of quality engineering for driver comfort and enjoyment, the 9–5 exceeds even the high standards of a model introduced in 1999.

Continuing the “9” theme designating previous Saab models, the second generation 9–5 debuted Sept.15, 2009, at the Frankfurt Motor Show and is the first Saab offered under the ownership of Spyker Cars, the high-end auto manufacturer which acquired Saab Jan. 26, 2010.

“This car is the start of a new era for our brand,” Jan Åke Jonsson, Saab Automobile’s CEO, has said. “We have created an advanced and very distinctive product by leveraging the power of our roots in key areas, such as progressive Scandinavian design, sporty driving and responsible performance.”

Built at Saab’s home plant in Trollhättan, the 9-5 is available in a variety of four-door (sedan) and five-door wagon configurations with two engines, the four-cylinder 2.3-liter 220-horsepower front wheel drive turbo and the V-6 2.8-liter 300-horsepower Cross Wheel Drive (AWD) turbo. Wheelbase for all versions is 106.4 inches, and curb weight is 3,360 pounds for the sedan and 3,470 pounds for the sport wagon.

At Legends, the 9–5 starts at $39,350 for the basic four-cylinder turbo to $55,000-plus for a fully optioned Aero with the V-6 turbo. The dealership maintains inventory, but, if you order, expect about three to four months for delivery.

Both six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are available.

Inside, Saab has increased legroom front and rear, and almost 16 cubic feet of trunk space deliver everyday as well as trip convenience. The wagon, the SportCombi, offers 73 cubic feet of cargo space.

The cockpit includes a deep center console which rises in a single styling gesture to the main instrument display and ventilation zone, all designed for driver safety and ease. The ignition is a start/stop button between the front seats, next to the gear shift. All models have active head restraints, front-seat side-impact airbags, antilock disc brakes and stability/ traction control.

You can even choose an optional head-up information display in the windshield, inspired by Saab’s aircraft heritage, as well as heated leather seats, navigation system, tri-zone automatic climate control, lane-departure warning, advanced park-assist system, 19-inch wheels and the Aero trim upgrade, which is included with the sport-tuned suspension option.

For entertainment, you may choose the Harman/Kardon audio system and an 8-inch touchscreen navigation system with hard disk storage for map data and 10 GB of jukebox-style music files. A console provides for connections to portable devices through USB and auxiliary ports as well as a 12-volt source.

In the rear, passengers can access audio controls or watch a DVD; viewing screens fold out from the front seat backs. Wired and wireless headphones are included. This rear-seat entertainment unit includes twin air vents and an independent temperature/fan speed control in addition to the dual-zone air-conditioning in the front.

Also available is Saab DriveSense adaptive chassis with real-time damping control; bi-xenon Smart Beam adaptive lighting; intelligent cruise control; keyless entry and starting; dynamic parking assistance; and Saab XWD four-wheel drive.

“The Saab 9–5 is still a car built for a driver who demands the smartest application of technology for the highest return on performance and luxury,” says Andrew Lucas, Saab general manager at Legends.

He adds that buying your Saab 9-5, or any other vehicle, at Legends includes outstanding service from one of the most respected dealerships in the Valley.

Mark Thomas became parts and service director January 2002. A graduate of the General Motors Automotive Institute of Management, Mark leads a Legends team with seven General Motors Master Technicians and one Saab Master Tech. All Legends technicians are fully certified in General Motors cars as well as ASE certified, says dealership General Manager Jim Seawards.

Legends ownership bought out Wayne Culiver in November 1998 and has been under the direction of Mike Fannin, president and CEO, since. Originally a Cadillac-Oldsmobile dealership, Legends added Hummer in 2002 and Saab two years later.

Legends offers a full line of new and pre-owned vehicles. For Cadillac, choose from a large inventory of Escalade, SRX crossovers, CTS, CTS Coupe, CTS Sportwagon and the phenomenal CTS-V — a world-class sport sedan. As a certified pre-owned dealer, Legends also offers a wide selection of Cadillac cars, crossovers and SUVs as well as Saab and other vehicles.

The dealership is a leader in total combined Sales and Service Customer Satisfaction, Jim says. In addition, Legends rates well above the regional and national CSI combined index. The sales staff is fully certified in both Cadillac and Saab.

“Our customers as well as our wonderful employees make us, truly, a family dealership,” Jim says. “Our slogan says: ‘Legends: It’s like no place else.’ We treasure this statement — and our employees live by it.”
