Russo and Steele Makes First Appearance at Amelia Island in March
Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auctions makes its first appearance at the world-famous Amelia Island Concours weekend, March 7–10, in Florida.
The two-evening Russo and Steele auction, Thursday, March 7, and Friday, March 8, will feature 300-plus collector automobiles, including European sports cars and American muscle cars, in its signature “Auction in the Round” at the city of Fernandina Municipal Airport, 3995 Amelia Island Parkway in Fernandina Beach. Gates open at 9 a.m., and the auction begins at 3 p.m. both days. General admission is $30.
Russo and Steele joins other auctions at Amelia Island, including Gooding & Company, RM Sotheby’s and Bonhams. The weekend culminates in the 24th Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, which begins at 9:30 a.m. at The Golf Club of Amelia Island Sunday, March 10.
This year’s Amelia Island honoree is Jacques Bernard “Jacky” Ickx, who recorded six wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, eight wins and 25 podium finishes in Formula 1 and a win in the grueling Paris-Dakar Rally.
Among the collectible cars Russo and Steele will offer are a 1952 Tojeiro Barchetta (#7018), developed by British designer, engineer and amateur racer John Tojeiro and the basis of the ACE, from which Carroll Shelby later created the great Cobra; 1963 Ferrari 250 GTL “Lusso” (7037); 1985 Porsche 930 Factory Slantnose Prototype (#7003); and a 1986 Ferrari Testarossa “Flying Mirror” (#7045).
“Our all-new event site, located on the east end of the airport, right off of Amelia Island Parkway, is centrally located and just 10 minutes from the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance,” says Drew Alcazar, CEO of Scottsdale-based Russo and Steele, which also holds annual August and January auctions in Monterey and Scottsdale, respectively.
“This once again puts Russo and Steele directly at the epicenter of another major American car week event and, much like our other venues, our team has established a long-term agreement with a host that will perpetuate the ‘only at R&S experience,’” he adds.
“Our ‘Auction in The Round’ will introduce many at Amelia Island to a visceral and emotional atmosphere that will interject what we believe is the core of the hobby: PASSION! We can’t wait to bring our signature philosophy of ‘cars and camaraderie’ to Florida in March!”
