Porsche Chandler: ‘Classic to Current’
At Porsche Chandler, the storied marque continues its 70-year sports car legacy with vehicles for today’s enthusiast, such as the superlative Macan SUVs.
On the southwest corner of Gilbert and Pecos roads, 1010 S. Gilbert Road, just north of the Santan 202 Freeway, the dealership is celebrating seven decades of Porsche sports cars this year as one of just eight Porsche Classic-certified dealers nationally. This distinction allows it to perform mechanical service and restoration, sell and have access to the company’s Classic parts bin and verify and document a Classic vehicle’s authenticity.
A luxury setting consistent with one of the world’s great automotive marques, the main seven-acre parcel showcases a 36,000-square-foot, 16-vehicle LEED Gold-certified showroom and service/parts facility.
Here, Porsche models include the Macan SUVs, the convertible Boxster, two-door Cayman, four-door Panamera, Panamera E- Hybrid and Turbo, Cayenne, Cayenne E- Hybrid, and the legendary 911, with up to the 370-horse twin turbo and available with a seven-speed Porsche PDK automatic.
This four-acre area also features a Porsche exclusive boutique with Tequipment vehicle accessories, Driver’s Selection apparel and items such as Porsche bicycles, 911-based office chairs, luggage and replica racing model cars.
Adjacent to this on three acres is Porsche Chandler’s 22,000-square-foot shared-services building, with vehicle detailing, tint/paint protection film (PPF) installation, clean room, commercial car wash, photo booth, large parts storage and general accounting offices.

The Macan: ‘Tiger’

“Macan” derives from the Indonesian word for “tiger” –– a combination of suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics, he explains.
Enhanced in design, comfort, connectivity and driving dynamics, the 2018 Macan reflects the heritage of the great 911 sports car and the 918 Spyder, and, before that, the first Porsche sports car, the 356 Roadster, revealed in 1948 –– 70 years ago. Since its debut 66 years later, in 2014, more than 350,000 Macans have been delivered.
Powerful and stylish, the SUV offers the standard power of a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, good for a robust 252 horsepower and 273 pound/feet of torque. Available, even on the basic trims, is a 3-liter turbocharged V-6, with 340 horsepower and 339 pound/feet of torque.
Increasing the excitement, the Porsche Macan Turbo brings it on with a 3.6-liter turbocharged V-6, producing 400 horsepower and 406 pound/feet of torque.
The Performance package notches that performance up to 440 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, good for 0–60 mph in just 4.2 seconds, Porsche says. The 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) with Auto Start Stop function is standard, as are 19-inch Macan Turbo wheels, with six-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers at front and single-piston floating calipers at the rear.
New this year, the Macan Sport Edition includes the PDK automatic transmission, Sport Chrono Package with Sport Plus functionality, Porsche Traction Management (PTM) active all-wheel drive and the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), an electronic shocks control system that continuously adjusts force based on current road conditions and driving style.
In addition, Macan Sport Edition has 20-in RS Spyder Design Wheels, four-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers at front and single-piston floating calipers at the rear. Unusual for SUVs, the new model and the full Macan line-up feature mixed tires with different widths front and rear. And, the exhaust system includes Sport tailpipes.
All Porsche, Inside and Out
New interior features include the 11-inch full-HD touchscreen of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with Porsche Connect Plus w/AppleCarPlay®. “The PCM allows you to access new digital functions, like intelligent voice control and the online navigation system, which is standard,” Cvijanovich explains.
Below this central screen are redesigned and repositioned air vents, an ionizer improves air quality and a heatable windscreen is also available for colder climates. In addition, a GT sports steering wheel recalls the signature 911 version.
On all editions, the seats have been designed to be comfortable on long trips and at high speeds as well as for everyday driving. The available 14-way power front seats incorporate ventilation, heating, and memory functions, meeting the needs of drivers of all sizes.
The new Traffic Jam Assist includes adaptive cruise control, which partially automates acceleration and braking and assists with steering in a traffic jam or in slow-moving traffic. With each Macan, the Connect Plus module controls functions and services such as intelligent voice control, real-time traffic information and off-road driving experiences.
This year, choose from new exterior colors such as Miami Blue, Mamba Green Metallic and Dolomite Silver Metallic. And, the new Macan is equipped with headlights featuring LED technology as standard. The three-part, three-dimensional LED light strip has been added at the rear of the car.
