Want privacy in one of America’s most sought-after zip codes: 85253? A quiet tree-lined street welcomes you to the approach and circular drive of this spectacular five-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bathroom custom home, 5636 East Buena Vista, in Hidden Lane Estates, near Doubletree Road and 56th Street in Paradise Valley.
Close to the dining, shopping, cultural and recreational opportunities of Scottsdale, the 6,780-square-foot single-level, with no interior steps, includes a stand-alone 662-square-foot casita with a kitchenette, full bath and laundry.
The 2.25 acres of the Santa Barbara/Tuscan-style home are perfect for everyday living, intimate family retreats and large gatherings, with grass front and back and many trees, including citrus and native varieties, making this also a bird-lover’s sanctuary.
“An astute buyer will immediately see the value of this property –– for its location, lot size, style and privacy,” says Frank Aazami, principal of the Private Client Group, Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty, Scottsdale.
To further enjoy the Arizona outdoor-centered lifestyle, you will have a relaxing 50×20-foot heated saltwater lap pool and a Jacuzzi hot tub; tranquil fountains; spacious patios and a ramada for outdoor living and dining, incorporating a circular staircase to an observation deck; built-in BBQ; lighted tennis courts and a basketball court; and the original tack room, which has comfortably stored the owners’ extensive holiday decorations for years.
“This estate home shares a privately owned street with five other multi-million-dollar homes,” says one of the owners. “Absolutely no one can look into any of your windows as it sits on a large lot with resort-style landscaping.”
The elegant interior, by award-winning Phoenix interior designer, Ernesto Garcia, ASID, features a neutral color pallet and detailed finishes such as Venetian plaster walls, which enhance the owners’ artworks and many memories from their world travels. Large architecturally appealing dual-pane windows welcome light across the natural wood and polished-marble floors and high ceilings, enhancing the openness of the home.
The spacious gourmet kitchen is centered by a large island and incorporates a gas cooktop, wall oven and other Viking and Sub-Zero appliances. Finished with two-toned cabinetry, the room has a breakfast bar and walk-in pantry and connects to formal dining and breakfast rooms, both with beautiful views to the grounds.
All bedrooms are ensuite. The master retreat includes a sitting area and a large walk-in closet.
The bathroom suite has a fireplace, double sinks, separate shower and soaking tub with jets, toilet room and bidet. Adjacent is an exercise room with a sauna. A second master also has a sitting room, walk-in closet and a separate entry/exit.
One of the owners’ favorite spaces is the shared library, with built-in bookcases and a library ladder accessing 500-plus books; it’s lushly finished in stormy-blue Italian plaster and walnut-stained beams. A 1,000-bottle temperature-controlled wine room and game room are also included.
“My favorite space is the Florence, Italy-influenced formal living room,” the owner says. “The scale of the room, with its majestic window and double French doors opening to our resort-size pool, has never failed to WOW our guests, particularly in the evening!”
The owners hired interior designer Garcia immediately. “Ernesto actually sat with me on the living room floor with a lap full of thread spools to design the custom Versace rugs, created in Beverly Hills,” she recalls. “They were designed specifically for this home, which called out to be not just another Southwestern home. The soul of the home spoke to us: ‘Please grace me with the regality of Florence, Italy,’ so we did!”
The owners are frequent entertainers, so the home has hosted opulent parties for events such as charity kick-offs, weddings and receptions. Friend and neighbor George Benson has stopped by and played the grand piano in the living room, and the tennis court has often served as the floor for tents over large events. And, the rectangular pool has accommodated large pink flamingos, pink beach balls and color-changing translucent balls for themed parties.
Family friends, some of them Hollywood celebrities and recording artists, have requested the owners block out dates for casita stays. “They claim the room possesses the most tranquil sleeping ambiance they have ever experienced, a haven to re-charge their mental batteries,” she explains.
Car lovers will enjoy the spacious three-car garage and additional motor court spaces for 15 vehicles. “There are preliminary drawings to add at least garage space for at least six more cars,” Aazami notes. In addition, the side-entry garage provides direct access to the home and includes store space and cabinetry for tools, parts and other items.
Other features are north/south orientation, gas heat, a wet bar, three interior gas fireplaces and one outside, skylights, central vacuum, water softener, security system and multi-zoned HVAC.
For families, your children can attend the “three Cs” of the high-performing Scottsdale Unified District: Cherokee Elementary School, Cocopah Middle School and Chaparral High School or attend any number of fine charter and private schools.
“Buyers will find that all the details of this home combine for a unique opportunity,” says Jan Kabbani, co-associate/ lister with Aazami, who commends her experience and expertise managing the real estate needs of high-profile clients such as these owners.
“There’s the timeless architecture, for one, and the fact that the grounds are private but located right in the heart of Paradise Valley. And, because Arizona loves to entertain, the grounds and floor plan are perfect for entertaining large or small groups. There’s tons of room to expand with more garages, for example, or whatever you wish for.”
“Most important to us is how this estate home’s personality has always appreciated how guests remark that it feels ‘so homey,’ like a family actually lives here,” the owner adds.
Friends and the charitable community have enjoyed the property, and no vacation compares to their private-time memories: July 4th decorations, barbecue and pool parties or their traditional eleven themed Christmas trees throughout the home, hosting company employee Christmas parties and many friends.
She says: “We hope that the next family who this home chooses will enjoy how much joy already fills the walls and how this house loves protecting its family.”
