Taste of Motorsports Wheels into Phoenix for a Weekend of Auto Mania

Last year, Arizona saw more than 150 days of 100-degree-plus temperatures, making it hard to enjoy almost anything. The summer seemed never-ending and the amount of activities people could partake in was limited. But one activity that seems to defy temperature due to its avid following is moto-mania or enthusiasm for all things auto.

From rallies in Tucson to car shows in Scottsdale to expos in Flagstaff, Arizona is a veritable playground for car lovers. That’s probably why Portland-based Taste of Motorsports, led by founder Tom Floyd, decided to expand his annual automotive lifestyle event to include an expansive weekend of cars and cocktails in the Phoenix area.

Taking place March 13 & 14, Taste of Motorsports will be rolling to and through the Bondurant High Performance Driving School in Chandler. The car enthusiast group will host three events in 2021, the first taking place in Arizona this year. The event aims to support nationally-known non-profit Drive Toward a Cure to benefit Parkinson’s Disease research and all ticket holders for Sunday, March 14th will be treated to a beautiful gourmet breakfast and lunch. And for a lucky few (50), there are track day spots available for enthusiasts to drive their personal car on the world-famous Bondurant track, and much more.

“The Scottsdale car community is very strong, and I follow a lot of content from the area. Scottsdale is one of those well-known pockets when it comes to car culture and we’re looking to spread things throughout the year more,” explains Floyd. “The dry temperatures and the ability to drive and the scenery are a big help. The world is shrinking and there’s so much access to things. It reminds me of Carmel, California, which has become such a hotbed for these events.”

On Saturday, the 13th, Floyd’s Taste of Motorsports will host a scenic rally drive during the day with 100% of the money raised going to Drive Toward a Cure, something Floyd and his wife Stephanie have put together in Portland year after year. The Floyds act as host, bringing the luxury/exotic car world together with the local community to make the weekend of auto enthusiasm a literal community-driven event.

The Phoenix-area event kicks off Taste of Motorsports 2021 before heading off to Portland in August and Sonoma Raceway in Northern California this fall.

“Going forward, Arizona will set the stage for the rest of the year, showcasing a weekend format. We’re organizing a drive in Arizona and 100% of the proceeds will go towards our charity, Drive Toward a Cure,” Floyd explains.

Any other costs connected to it will be covered by sponsors, according to Floyd, and more specifically will benefit the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, a part of Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.

Besides riding in collector cars in the track day events, guests will partake in a gourmet food experience fit for VIP guests. With a foodie theme centered around “Cuisine of the Modena Provence”, everyone who attends will be sure to experience elegance and luxury at the highest level.
On the evening of March 13th, there will be a private Preview Night, limited to 50 guests, where a few special cars will be unveiled. This private party will also serve as a silent auction benefiting Drive Toward a Cure.

To wrap things up, Taste of Motorsports provides dealers with a unique environment to display and potentially sell their collector cars, connecting with their target audience both old and new. There is no better place to educate high-performance enthusiasts and collectors than the safety of a proper race track.

“My goal is to get dealers and manufacturers in the market to come out and feature their cars,” notes Floyd. “The big part of the event is the demonstrations. We want to provide a closed course, a safe place for dealers to sell cars. It’s absolutely the only place where a client can take a drive in a McLaren and stretch the car’s legs.”
