Huntington Beach Concours and Rod & Custom Show are June 1 & 2
Pony cars from 1964 to 1972 and the 50th anniversaries of Datsun Zs and Honda 750 motorcycles are among the featured vehicles at the 34th annual Huntington Beach Concours d’Elegance and Rod & Custom Show, June 1 and 2, at Huntington Beach Central Park, next to the Huntington Beach Central Library, 7111 Talbert, Huntington Beach, California.
The Hot Rods & Customs Show is Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Concours, for Classics, Motorcycles and Bicycles, on Sunday, June 2, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Approximately 4,000 car fans are anticipated to enjoy 100 cars on Saturday and 400 cars and 90 motorcycles on Sunday, explains Bob Valeski, advertising manager for the Concours.
The Rod & Custom Show has 15 classes for automobiles and eight classes for motorcycles. For the Concours, two levels of judging will take place for “concours,” and “street,” entries. A third unjudged “display” level is also offered. There are 13 major classes, and first, second and third-place trophies in each level for each class will be awarded as well as a Best of Show.
Dean Kunz, KABC-TV auto specialist, will be the grand marshal. Mothers Polishes, Waxes and Cleaners returns as the official sponsor.
Founded by Bart P. McGrath, the volunteer-managed Concours features live entertainment, an operating model train layout, activities for the children and a VIP luncheon. Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell car, the Mirai, will make its third appearance.
New this year: The Rolls-Royce and Bentley Drivers Club of Southern California will conduct its annual national point judging meet in conjunction with the Concours and will bring 40 to 50 cars. And, the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, associated with CARB, will display an electric vehicle and offer five electrics for free test drives.
Net proceeds support the Children’s Resource Center of the Huntington Beach Library.
Automobile entry for the Rod & Custom Show is $30, and motorcycle $20. For Sunday’s Concours, automobiles are $40, motorcycle entry, $25, and bicycle, $15.
