Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction Posts $39.4 Million in Sales

Record attendance, record auction sales, the most registered bidders ever for a Palm Beach auction, including new bidders, and three docketed car collections helped make the 16th Barrett-Jackson Florida event, April 12–15, the best yet.

Altogether, 692 vehicles sold, nearly all at No Reserve, exceeding $38.3 million, and 380 items of automobilia brought another $702,000-plus. And, for charity, $430,000 was raised, bringing the event total to more than $39.4 million.

The largest of the collections was John Staluppi’s Cars of Dreams: 145 cars selling for $13.96 million.

“Our guests have made the Palm Beach Auction such an electrifying event year after year,” says Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Scottsdale-based Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions®. Established in 1971, Barrett-Jackson also produces annual auctions in Scottsdale, Arizona; Palm Beach, Florida; at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut; and Las Vegas, Nevada.

The top five vehicles were a 2012 Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition (Lot 724), $770,000; 1959 DeSoto Adventurer Convertible (#718.1), $330,000; 1970 Plymouth Superbird (#708), $286,000, a world record at auction for the model; 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Custom Convertible (#719), $275,000; and a 2006 Ford GT (#726.1), $244,200.

Other auction sale world records were set: “Herbie,” a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle (#703) brought $128,700, and a 1966 Ford Good Humor Truck (#392.1) fetched a sweet $117,700.

Topping the automobilia sales was a Richfield gas station island with rare A.O. Smith matching electric gas pumps (#6385.2), $36,800.

For charity, a 2006 Ferrari F430 Spider (#3000), previously owned by Zac Brown Band fiddler Jimmy De Martini, brought $250,000, with 100 percent of the hammer price benefiting Camp Southern Ground.

On Saturday, the 35th Anniversary Corvette (#3001), which raised $350,000 in Scottsdale, sold again for $180,000 to benefit the American Heart Association, this time to Jeanette and John Staluppi, who generously donated the Corvette back for a future auction sale. The Corvette has already helped generate $530,000 as part of Barrett-Jackson’s yearlong Driven Hearts charity initiative.
