The last seventh-generation Chevrolet Z06 Corvette sold for $2.7 million at the Barrett-Jackson 4th Annual Northeast Auction, benefitting the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The sale broke the company’s record for an automaker-donated vehicle at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, June 26–29.
A 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster led the main docket at $280,500, followed by a Serial #1 2019 Yenko Corvette, $258,500, and a Resto-Mod 1954 Buick known as “G54” brought $220,000 –– a new record at auction for a coupe from that year.
Other top sellers for the three-day event were an Eleanor Tribute Edition Mustang, $187,000; 2017 Dodge Viper GTC ACR, $172,700; a 1967 Ford Shelby GT500, $165,000; and a 1997 Toyota Supra Anniversary Edition, $176,000.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have helped write a new chapter in automotive history with the sale of the last-built seventh-gen Corvette,” says Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Scottsdale-based Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions®. “Not only did the bidding create an emotional auction moment, but the hammer price of $2.7 million is going to help many of our nation’s finest heroes.”
Frank Siller, chairman and CEO of the Stephen Siller Foundation, which builds mortgage-free, accessible smart homes for severely injured service members and helps pay off mortgages for families of first responders killed in the line of duty, explains, “This donation will build at least five homes for our catastrophically injured veterans to give them their independence and a better quality of life.” See tunnel2towers.org.
Continuing an industry trend, professionally built resto-mods, contemporary supercars, 1980s/90s performance vehicles, classic trucks, SUVs and 4x4s highlighted the auction.
Three of the top customs were a 1969 Ford Bronco, $203,500; ’71 Plymouth ’Cuda, $165,000; and a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, $85,000, all proceeds benefitting NS2 Serves, which helps veterans with IT training and employment assistance, at no cost to them.
Finally, the Automobilia Auction generated almost 500 sales. The top item was a 1950s Chevrolet-Oldsmobile neon sign for $23,000. Other leading sellers were a 1928 Texaco Gasoline Visible Gas Pump, $18,400, and a 1954 Mobil Oil Pegasus Animated Porcelain Neon Sign, $17,250.
