34th Concorso Italiano Is August 17
Concorso Italiano – the world’s largest celebration of Italian car design and performance – returns for its 34th year Saturday, August 17, 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m., at the Bayonet Blackhorse Golf Course in Seaside, California.
The event celebrates the 50th anniversaries of the Ferrari 365 Dino and the DeTomaso Pantera. The 70th of the Abarth will also be marked. And, as part of the multi-year celebration of Alfa Romeo with Sports Car Market, three stellar models will be honored: Junio Zagato, Giulietta and Guilia Spider.
Ten marques are judged at the Concorso: Alfa, DeTomaso, Ferrari, Fiat/Abarth, Lancia, Iso/Bizzarrini, Lamborghini, Maserati, Motorcycles & Special Coachworks (Italian Designed Vehicles). Other classics regularly shown include Apollo, Bandini, Bertone, Cisitalia, Ghia, Moreti, Pagani, Ducati and Moto Guzzi.
The judges select 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in each marque; the 1st-place winners are eligible for Best of Show. Last year’s top winner was a 1951 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport.
New this year, as the fourth installment of Magnificent Monthly Monterey Drives, is a nonsanctioned two–three-hour casual drive Wednesday, August 14, from Black Horse Golf Club to a surprise winery destination.
The traditional Friday Evening Reception returns to the CI Club Pavilion for members and owners of registered vehicles placing their cars on the field the day before the show. On Saturday, the Al Fresco Lunch is sponsored by Grundy Insurance, catered by Gino’s. Tickets are $75 and include lunch and wine and or ice tea/water.
The Concorso Italiano Foundation supports Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services (jacobsheart.org).
General Admission tickets are $190 until August 16, $225 on the day of the event. CI Club Packages are $510; they are available until August 15.
