22nd Ironstone Concours D’Elegance is September 22
A classic Isotta Fraschini will be one of the highlights of the 22nd Ironstone Concours D’Elegance September 22, 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. at Ironstone Vineyards 1894 Six Mile Road, Murphys, California, held amidst the historic goldmining area of the Sierra Nevada, about two hours from Sacramento.
The 1928 Isotta Fraschini was built by the luxury Milan-based carmaker, founded in 1900, and comes to the event from the collection of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Also showcased this year will be vintage race cars and tractors and Amphicars. More than 350 cars 1973 and earlier are expected to be shown in original or restored-to-original condition.
Farmers and vintners, Gail and John Kautz, the owners of Ironstone Vineyards, began the event to help young people stay involved in agriculture for their careers.
Proceeds from the two-day event now support central and northern California youth programs, in particular, FAA, 4-H and the California State Fair Scholarship. Additional local organizations helped are Guide Dog and Service Dog programs, the Horse Classics and other scholarships. Local young people participating in these programs are always highlights of the concours.
This year, cars will be judged in 35 classes, including Antiques, Vintage Race Cars, America Cars 1962–1973, European Sports car through 1973 and individual marque classes. A Best in Class and Best of Show are among the awards to be presented.
A Cars & Stars sit-down dinner, formerly Dinner Under the Stars, is $60 per person Friday evening, September 21. Guests will enjoy local Calaveras County wines and a chef-prepared meal.
On Saturday, the Patron’s Pavilion & Lunch, 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m., includes beverages, light breakfast snacks and a catered lunch for $125 per person.
New this year is a Vintage Back Roads Tour through Calaveras County, with a stop at New Melones Lake for lunch on a boat. This event is $75 for two guests and is limited to 30 vehicles.
Gates open Saturday morning at 9.a.m. General admission is $25, two for $45 and children 14 and under are free.
