“C8”, the first generation mid-engine Corvette has been with us going on five model years now, you would almost be forgiven to forget how groundbreaking a vehicle it was when it was originally launched in 2020. Our 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible however brought back all feelings and emotions first experienced when the ground breaking model for GM first hit the streets. In the corners is where you find the biggest leap in Corvette performance. GM developed the mid-engine chassis in the C8 Corvette for one thing, handling. Sure, this mid-engine chassis also moved the Corvettes’ looks out of the Kentucky Bluegrass and into the European design department, but unlike many of its competitors, the C8 Corvette has been such a sales success that the mid-engine sports/exotic shape is now familiar by the masses, even with a Corvette badge.

As I mentioned before, around the corners and in the bends is where you lose all association with the Corvette generations of old. A 40%-60% weight distribution, all the advantages given to us by the physics of a low mounted mid-engine V8, and a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 305 section rear tires demonstrate how serious the GM engineers were about the handling initiative for the C8 Corvette. Our press car too had all the performance options available on the Stingray, and after all things considered, they are a complete bargain in the landscape of sports car manufacturer option pricing.

The Z51 Performance package ($6,345) equipped on our press car includes the following performance upgrades; diff. ratio, performance tires, rear wing, limited split diff., performance brakes, upgraded cooling system, performance suspension w/ Magnetic selective ride control, performance traction management, and a couple visual enhancements as well. $104,055 MSRP for our 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is a proud number indeed, however you have to ask yourself, what else on the market offers the performance and equipment, in a mid-engine layout for the money.

Visually, our 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is a showstopper, even in its fifth model year, the C8 generation Corvette still gets thumbs up and people wanting to talk and ask questions everywhere it goes. It does not hurt either that our example was finished in the 2025 Hysteria Purple Metallic over Sky Cool Gray leather/suede. 3LT Z51 package adds some additional black exterior trim, dialing in the aggressiveness of the body’s sharp lines and “supercar styling”.

Under the glass engine cover is the tried and true LT2 6.2 liter V8, producing 490 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. We all know about the crazy power-plants offered in the Z06 and newly announced ZR1, however the LT2 in the Stingray is nothing to scoff at. The 8-speed dual-clutch transmission by Tremec is incredibly fast up and down, so you’re almost always making peak power at any speed. Top down, or the lowering of the rear window, the Z51’s sports exhaust fills the cabin with pops at the top of the rev range when moving up the gears.

Behind the wheel is where any manufacturer wants their product to shine, but most do not experience the pressure the public put on GM when announcing the arrival of the mid-engine C8 Corvette in 2020. Due to the excellent execution by GM’s engineers five years ago, no major changes or facelifts have been needed for the C8 Corvette Stingray. Sure, more extreme performance models have been announced since, however when it comes to the numbers sold, customers can’t argue with the value of a fully loaded, convertible, mid-engine V8 sports car like the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible.
