2006 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder

The Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder was debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show two years after the Coupé version. The Spyder increases the Lamborghini supercar offerings to four.

The Gallardo Spyder is a completely new model not just a Coupé minus the top. It has many unique new features including engine and performance enhancements.

The 10-cylinder engine now develops 520hp at 8,000 rpm. The 6-speed gearbox also has lower ratios for increased performance. The steering is more precise and includes a fluid cooler. The suspension has been recalibrated and the Spyder also benefits from aluminum bodywork and four-wheel drive. The performance modifications allow the Spyder to go from 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds and give it a top speed of 195 mph with the top up and 191 mph with the top down.

The Spyder achieves it’s sharp, athletic design by complementing the long wheelbase with short overhangs. The carbon fibre engine bonnet also stores the soft top out of view. The roof raising/lowering system is based on an electronic control system with electrohydraulic actuators. The system is very simple to operate by way of two push-buttons on the center of the dashboard. The top can be raised or lowered in just 20 seconds. A Service Function is available that positions the roof to allow easy access to the engine.

New body colors are available. In addition to the current Gallardo Colors, the new Spyder is also available in two special colors: Phoebe (light blue) and Verde Picus (green). The new leather interior colors include Marrone Janus (brown) as the main color, Bianco Polar (white) as a contrast color, and carpets in Marrone Janus (brown), Rosso Centaurus (red) or Arancio Leonis (orange).

There are also several packages offered to customize the car including a carbon fibre package, branding package, winter package, leather package, travel set and sports set-up. These packages include options such as Navigation, heated electric seats and colored brake calipers.

After the launch of the Spyder it was named “The World’s Most Beautiful Car 2005” in the sportscar category.

The Gallardo Spyder was selected by an international jury made up of designers, car and art historians, and specialist journalists. The Spyder won its award with a score of 13 points. The Spyder combines, with exclusive style, the three main characteristics of Automobili Lamborghini: extreme, uncompromising and Italian. These values have made Automobili Lamborghini very successful throughout the world. The award will be handed over on March 3rd, 2006 on the occasion of the Milan Triennale.

This is not the first time that Lamborghini has won one of the prestigious “World’s Most Beautiful Car” awards. In 2004 the award was won by the Murciélago Roadster, while in 2003 it was given to the Gallardo. In 2001 the first of Lamborghini’s new model range, the Murciélago, received a “Special Award”.

The new era of Automobili Lamborghini began in 1998, when the company was acquired by AUDI AG.
